Create your Google Business listing in one hour
Step-by-step tutorial to create your Google Business Profile in one hour: registration, verification, initial optimisation, first posts. 2026 guide.
Why one hour is enough (to get started)
Registration, verification and initial optimisation fit into 60 minutes with the right checklist. Maintenance comes later; the setup itself is fast.
Step 1 · Registration (5 min)
- Go to business.google.com
- Click “Manage now”
- Enter name + address + primary category
- Choose a verification method (postcard / phone / email)
Step 2 · Verification (5 min, but 5-14 days of waiting for the postcard)
In 2026, Google offers several methods depending on your profile. The choice is up to Google:
- Postcard (the most common): Google mails a letter with a 5-digit code. Delay 5-14 days. You enter the code in the listing and it’s verified. Don’t change anything until the code arrives.
- Video: film a short video of your establishment (storefront with the name visible, interior, a piece of equipment, and proof that you manage the place — key, badge, till access). Verified within 5 days, with no address stored. Ideal without a fixed address or in a service area.
- Phone / SMS: Google calls or texts a code. Reserved for certain establishment categories.
- Email: rare, sometimes offered if your domain is already verified elsewhere (Search Console, Google Workspace).
Tip: with a property already verified in Google Search Console for your domain, GBP verification can be nearly instant.
Step 3 · Initial optimisation (40 min)
- Secondary categories (max 9)
- 750-character description
- Services listed one by one
- Attributes (parking, terrace, halal, etc.)
- Precise hours + holidays
- Photos (10 minimum)
- Logo + cover photo
- Website link with UTM
- Verified phone number
- Pre-filled Q&A
Step 4 · First posts (10 min)
Three posts to get started: short, one real photo, a call to action.
Post 1 — Introduction
Welcome to [Name]! [One sentence on what you do best]. We’re open [days] from [time] to [time], at [address]. See you soon. Photo of the storefront or the team — Button: “Call”
Post 2 — Offer / new item
[New item or current promo] available this week. [Concrete detail: price, duration, condition]. Stop by or call [phone]. Photo of the product/dish — Button: “Call” or “Book”
Post 3 — Behind the scenes / trust
[A reassuring fact: “all our products arrive fresh every morning” / “20 years of experience on every brand” / “homemade, never frozen”]. That’s why our customers come back. Photo of the workshop/kitchen/process — Button: “Learn more” → your website
After that, one post per week. Consistency matters more than perfection.
Mistakes you must never make
- NAP inconsistent with your website
- Poorly chosen primary category
- Blurry or stock photos
- Description stuffed with keywords
